This one's for you Ryan!

Recently my friend Ryan asked me how the food was over here so I decided to answer via my blog - and since just yesterday I went to a fabulous restaurant in Ebisu - now seems to be the perfect time to address his question. At the top of the Yebisu building there are two floors of restaurants...after a very long slow elevator ride to the 38th floor we safely emerged to begin, as my friend Michiyo put it, our research. After consulting the menus and examining the plastic food displays we settled on a restaurant called Hokkaido on the 39th floor. Once we settled into our booth we noticed a computer screen nestled between the condiments (first pic on the left)...we both poked at it but nothing happened. The waiter came round and took our drink order - after which the screen came to life. What better way to order food then to select it from a colourful computer menu - you could even browse by category. What convenience. So to get to Ryan's question - I absolutely love the food here in Japan (some of it I could do without like anything that still has eyeballs) but for the most part it's great.

Hi Jo!

Thanks for the futuristic look into what dining in North America will most likely be like by the year 2050.

Everything (except for the plastic displays) sounds great!!

I'm not big on eyeballs either.

Ryan.
