Land Down Under

Hey Folks! Can I just say that I'm exhausted? I'm coming up on the last leg of my Australia trip (I make it sound like I've been travelling for months) and all the excitement is taking it's toll! Although, I've only been in Australia for almost two weeks Juniper and I have managed to cram in all the good stuff. We can't believe how much fun we're having.

A quick run down of what I've been up to since the big jump:

Exploring Melbourne (beautiful city)

Seeing all the cute animals of Australia:

kangaroo
wallaby
tasmanian devil
wombat

Tasting all the great wines of the Yarra Valley (I've discovered that I don't like sweet wines.)

And the greatest of all: seeing the smallest of the penguins species (we're talking 30 cm folks) emerge from the ocean in groups of about 50-75 - they just kept coming in waves - their little white bellies waddling up the beach. It was the most amazing thing - they have quite far to waddle from beach to home and they do it twice a day like clockwork.

Incredible.

After this trip - I believe it'll be impossible for me to eat any living creature again. Between diving the great barrier reef and seeing a completely different, vibrantly alive world to staring into the big eyes of a kangaroo and feeling it clutch my hand for balance as it ate...i don't know folks - all I can say is that it grosses me out to see kangaroo jerkie being sold at the airport.

This trip has seriously been great (I make it sound like I'm leaving soon - I still have 4 days!) - we've met the nicest people while in Australia from all over the world.

Tomorrow Juniper and I are taking yet another organized tour (the easiest way to see out of the way places) to the Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles. Should be absolutely beautiful...well the pictures on the brochure look pretty amazing anyway.

Anyway folks...next entry will either be from Sydney where I'll be for the remainder of my trip or from Tokyo where I'll be for only a night (how I miss it). Juniper is off to Alice Springs to continue the journey for another week or so.

G'day mates.

Melbourne is a great city. Number 6 on my all-time greatest cities in the world list I posted a few months ago over on Japanimaction.

It's no Tokyo though!
