Institute for Nature Study

I've lived in Tokyo for over three years and I still haven't seen all that it has to offer. This is the beauty of living here. Having a week off to discover more of it was a gift from the Gods (well sort of - more on that later). After stating that I wanted to spend the day outdoors and use my new camera, my brilliant British mate Mac came up with the Institute for Nature Study, 200,000 square metres of wilderness smack dab in the middle of downtown Tokyo. It's incredible that somewhere so lush and beautiful can exist within one of the world's biggest cities. As Mac put it, "If you were plonked in the middle you would have no idea you were in the Tokyo Megalopolis." The park is an attempt to preserve the natural landscape of the area, dating back to the Edo period. With entry into the park limited to 300 hundred people you do have the feeling that you've entered another time and place. Much like you've just taken a trip in the TARDIS. A definite must see for someone looking for an escape from big city life. (I'm starting to sound like a guidebook). If you haven't visited it yet folks, put it on your list. You can always visit the Meguro Parasitological Museum while you're at it too, if you need further coaxing.

That place is truly awesome. Amazing just to be somewhere in Tokyo where they regulate the crowds!

Photos are good too!
